Le Cinéclub / The Film Society’s 2015 season begins with Michael Powell’s controversial, brilliant 1960 film Peeping Tom, about a serial killer who films women as he murders them. The film received brutal reviews upon release but has since been reappraised as a masterpiece, thanks in part to the efforts of Martin Scorsese, who considers it one of the best movies ever made. Cinema VA-114 (1400 de Maisonneuve W.), 6:30 p.m., $8/$6 (students and seniors)

Hear an eclectic line-up of established and emerging authors read from their works at the launch of the third issue of online literary magazine Cosmonauts Avenue. The Brass Door Pub (2171 Crescent), 7 p.m., free

Catch the indie exotica of Lia Ices, with local openers Seoul. Divan Orange (4234 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $10/$13

Glasgow alt duo the Vaselines, who came to fame under the wing of Nirvana, reunited a few years back and are bringing their show to the intimate confines of Bar le Ritz PDB tonight, with Philly’s Amanda X opening. 179 Jean-Talon W., 9:30 p.m., $20
