Body Horror
Mascara and Popcorn’s early Halloween event

Halloween party season is nearly upon us, and if you’re already in the mood for horror, check out the Mascara & Popcorn Festival’s Body Horror Contest, featuring short film screenings, musical performances and much more. Foufounes Electriques (87 Ste-Catherine E.), 6 p.m., $15

BookThug launches a stack of books at Drawn & Quarterly, with readings and refreshments. See details about the books here. 211 Bernard, 7–9 p.m.

Greg Sestero rose to infamy with his role in the cult classic film The Room. He’s now written a book about it and is coming to Montreal for a reading accompanied by a screening of Tommy Wiseau’s ever-popular bad-movie classic. Dollar Cinema (6900 Decarie), 8–11:15 p.m., $20 (presale), $30 (door), $10 (film screening only). See ticket details here.

Toronto neo-goth/synth-pop band Austra plays with likeminded one-woman wonder Petra Glynt. SAT (1201 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $22/$25
