The Sin and the Swoon at Passovah Summer Fest

It’s day one of the Montreal International Reggae Festival, with acts like Cham and Poirier (whose top five Reggae Fest picks can be read right here) bringing some low-end up-beats to the south side. Quays of the Old Port, 5 p.m., $10 ($90 for three-day pass)

The Montreal Chinese Film Festival opens with Ann Hui’s award-winning A Simple Life. Cinéma du Parc (3575 Parc), 7 p.m., $11.50

Catch the Montreal Shakespeare Company’s rendition of Macbeth, directed by Aaron George with music by Ace Lopes. Monument National (1182 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $25/$20 for students
