UPDATE: Forget New Year’s Eve. Halloween is Montreal’s favourite party. Our thing last night was a blast — see a photo gallery here.

But there’s much more fun to be had. This year, Halloween in Montreal is running for an unprecedented week-and-a-half. Here’s a list of parties and events happening around the city:

 

Oct. 31

Bash-up on Bishop Halloween Piss-up!

In the Concordia ghetto, Grumpy’s holds its 54th annual (?!) Halloween party, with costume prizes and music by the Moonshiners song circle. 1242 Bishop, 9 p.m., free

 

uRockaoke!

Rock karaoke with a live band? uRockaoke hosts its annual Halloween shindig, providing just that. Playhouse (5656 Parc), 10 p.m.

 

Punk Rock Karaoke!

Dead celebrities is the theme at this punk-rock bash. Search Facebook for the long, long list of available tunes. L’Escogriffe (4467 St-Denis), 9 p.m., $8 (includes one drink)

 

Xtreme Halloween!

Xtrem Productions present heavy music at Katacomes, feat. Motorheadache (a tribute to you-know-who), Cereal Killers, OPENYOURMIND and Citizen Vicious. 1635 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $10
 

Hardcore Halloween!

Party on the Main at Trick or TRH!,with fast and shouty music courtesy of Bearmace and Jesus Horse, door prizes and a costume contest to boot. TRH Bar (3699 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $2
 

Saxsyndrum!

The local band launches their record Future Circus, which should inspire some sweet costumes—there’ll be prizes for best costume and best dancer. Openers are Cyrus and ¡Flist!. Casa del Popolo (4873 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $7/$10

 

Holy Halloween!

DJ Frigid sticks a halo on his new alt night at Apollon, all the while courting controversy. Encouraged costumes include “sexy Jesus, sacré Marie, nuns gone wild, demons and fanatics, burkas and crosses.” 1450 Ste-Catherine E., 10 p.m., $4

 

Disorder!

DJs Jordan Dare and Joakim spin dark and stormy sounds at Rockette. 4479 St-Denis, 10 p.m., free
 

Soul Party!

Live music from Martin Goyette & the Skinny Bones and the all-vinyl DJs of Divan’s soul monthly, Mess Around. Divan Orange (4234 St-Laurent), 9:30 p.m.

 

Monstra!

Glossy art mag Décover throws a Halloween bash/finissage for its monster-art exhibit in a Centre-Sud church. Expect DJs, costume contests, installation art, portraiture and good times. 1155 Alexandre-de-Sève, 8 p.m., $10

 

Love-in!

Lindy Vopnfjörð, Sister Spacek, Tony Ezzy and other fine musicians play this Greenland Productions party at classic St-Laurent Blvd. dive Barfly. Peace be upon you. 4062 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $9

 

Punk/alt cover-band pile-up!

The Stooges, the Ramones, the Pixies and, to mark the passing of a legend, the Velvet Underground/Lou Reed solo material will be covered by a succession of pop-up bands feat. members of local acts like Metalian, Red Mass, Each Other, Ultrathin etc. Drones Club (address withheld), 10 p.m. sharp, $5/$7 w/out costume
 

Fattalloween!

Ladies nite!

We’re not going to tell you where it is, but the Casual Agent is doing it up in the wee hours, with open bar and “a very special line up” of…DJs? Bands? Very mysterious. 3-6 a.m., $20

Rocky Horror Picture Show!

Halloween Massacre!

Pop Montreal presents live music by Each Other (“the Shitty Beatles” cover band), Renegades of Funk (Rage Against the Machine cover band), WZaaRD and Filthy Haanz plus DJs Raf Stabbybak, & Annie Q. NOMAD (129 Van Horne, 2nd floor), 9:30 p.m., $7/$10 without a costume

 

All Black Everything!

PJ Harvey cover band!
