Paris is Burning

Happy Canada Day! For festivities including cake and fireworks head down to the Old Port.

Local street art legend Omen is painting on-site at YUL’s Great Murale. Check out the new giant 800 sq. ft. mural and cheer ‘im on as it goes up. René-Levesque and Lucien-L’Allier at Overdale Square, 12–4 p.m., free

Cinéma 17 screens Jennie Livingstone’s Paris is Burning (1991), which documents New York City’s vibrant drag culture in its heyday during the early 1990s. Le Cagibi (5490 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., by donation

BluRum13 kicks off an East Coast tour at Casa del Popolo, alongside locals Jonathan Emile and Bad Weather. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, in Casa’s old room, la Décadence Électronique with DJ László offers sounds on a totally different tip, namely ’80s-styled minimal synth. (It’s also happy hour all night.) 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m.
