It’s opening day for Blue Metropolis, the city’s week-long international literary festival. Stay tuned for Cult MTL’s festival highlights, as well as a chat with G-G winning poet Julie Bruck.

From Liverpool, Clinic is the place where post-punk, pop and noise have been jamming since 1997. Catch the (often masked) quartet with openers the Babies at Il Motore. 179 Jean-Talon W., 9 p.m., $13/$15

Wants & Needs invites you to the 10th edition of Short & Sweet, a recurring dance forum that invites 25 choreographers to present dance pieces under three minutes, giving the audience a fast and thorough survey course in the local dance scene and raising funds for independent choreographers. This round, the curators have invited Montreal dancers to present their own original creations at the event. La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $10

The FCLM festival of Latin-American cinema screens Colombian director William Vega’s debut feature La Sirga (The Towrope), showing here for the first time after screening at Cannes and TIFF. Cinéma du Parc (3575 Parc), 9:15 p.m., $12
