Tommy Kruise, a consummate Mook

It’s International Women’s Day, so admire all the awesome women in your life for everything they do and all the shit they put up with. It’s free, and you can do it anywhere.

Underground comics guy (and former Mirror contributor) Richard Suicide opens a new exhibit of works at Rats 9, Jus de calvaire et autres obsessions. Head to the vernissage tonight to see it first. Belgo Building (372 Ste-Catherine W.), #550, 6–9 p.m., free

Check out the vernissage for J’adore ton travail, a collection of new works on paper by Jo-Anne Balcaen exploring the pop cultural vernacular. Monastiraki (5478 St-Laurent), 6–9 p.m.

Masters of metalcore Every Time I Die hit the stage tonight, with openers the Acacia Strain, Vanna, Hundredth and No Bragging Rights. Bring your beards and/or neck tattoos. Club Soda (1225 St-Laurent), 7 p.m., $20/$25 door

Montreal Ska Fest may be a once-a-year happening, but the folks behind the fest put on shows all year ‘round. Tonight features the Fabulous Lolo (with Lorraine Muller on the mic) with NYC’s the Forthrights and Take the Boys. Café Campus (57 Prince-Arthur E.), 8 p.m., $10

If indie art rock is your bag, Animal Collective is at Metropolis, and be sure to get there on time for the opener, Baltimore showman Dan Deacon. 59 Ste-Catherine E., 8 p.m., $27/$31.70

The annual Art Matters fest opens a slew of new exhibits today: check out new shows at BBAM!, Studio 427, Galerie Coatcheck, Les Territoires, VAV Gallery , Espace projet art contemporain, Studio XX, Eastern Bloc, La Baraque and more. The festival kicks off in earnest with an opening party featuring performances by Baked Goods, Asthma Camp, Marc Bartissol and Sam Unger. Espace Réunion (6660 Hutchinson), 9 p.m.–3 a.m., $5
