Navigate the sonic scapes of Montréal en Lumière’s white night with an assist from Cult MTL.


New Troglodytes, Philippe Blanchard’s installation, getting musical tonight

While other suckers are lining up outside overcrowded museums, playing in the snow in the Old Port or, God forbid, listening to this, you could be drinking in some stellar sounds or dancing your hibernal ass off. For music lovers, here are five fine places to be tonight.

Musique Improvisées & partitions graphiques
This is more Journée Blanche. If improv is your scene, members of l’Ensemble Supermusique and friends will be digging into work by great contemporary improvisers. For the occasion, Joane Hétu, Danielle Palardy Roger, Charity Chan, Jean Derome, Cléo Palacio-Quintin, Philippe Lauzier, Corinne René, Guido Del Fabbro, Isabelle Bozzini, Nicolas Caloia, Aaron Lumley, Alexandre St-Onge and Vergil Sharkya will be hauling their wood, brass and hardware downtown. Chapelle Historique du Grand Pasteur (100 Sherbrooke E.), 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Pop at CCA
As per usual, there’s a helluva lot going on at the CCA for Nuit Blanche, not least Pop Montreal’s party, feat. sleaze-pop superstar Jef Barbara, electro brooders Solar Year (who also provide the visuals) and DJ Monag. 1920 Baile, 7 p.m., free

Nuit Blanche at SAT
It’s all about old-school video games and tweaked electronic soundtracks at SAT, where 8-bit consoles and chiptune DJs fill out the main space, the Satosphere and Labo Culinaire. In the house are Toy Company, Construct, Ghostdog, the Milky Runners, Das Mortal, Azyl, jocool & Liberty, Diagraf and the Mount Royal Game Society. 1201 St-Laurent, 7 p.m., free

New Troglodytes
You’ll want to hit up the Belgo Building, though claustrophobes beware, it’ll be wall to wall moustaches and grandma sweaters in there (“hipster high school,” as Mark Slutsky once said). Within the walls of Arprim, Philippe Blanchard’s psychedelic installation will come alive with his musical triggers. Also playing in the space are acts running the gamut from guttural electroscapes (Hobo Cubes) to anthemic rock (the World Provider, feat. Cult MTL Screen editor Malcolm Fraser and Market Share columnist Stacey DeWolfe) to addictive lo-fi oddities (Drainolith). 372 Ste-Catherine W., #426, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Karnival
Brace for bass at Poirier’s annual Nuit Blanche dance party, where he’ll be joined by the Salivation Army and Riddim Wise to deliver the finest dancehall, reggae and electro raggas. Club Soda (1225 St-Laurent), 10 p.m., free ■
