Don’t let the unwieldy title Allegory, Folktales & Poetics of Soviet Cinema in the Work of Sergei Parajanov put you off; the series screens of some of greatest and most underrated films in cinema history, absolutely free. It launches today with Parajanov’s stunning 1964 debut Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors, plus Marion Delaronde Konwennenhon’s short animation Ronatehiarontie (They Grow Together) and a lecture by Masha Salazkina. Check out travel photographer Vinnie Smith’s latest exhibit. Black Dot press presents the vernissage for Behind God’s Ear, documenting 10 months’ of Smith’s road tripping around the US. It’s the last night to catch Ignorance, a dark, eerie marionette show, with puppets bearing a strong resemblance to Maurice Sendak’s shaggy, creepy-cute characters in Where the Wild Things Are. Hurricane Sandy hit Brooklyn rock ’n’ roll label Norton Records hard, damaging loads of vinyl by legends like Hasil Adkins, Link Wray, Gene Vincent, the Sonics, ? & the Mysterians and Bobby Fuller.
