Yesterday, you couldn’t peel yourself off this thing. Surely you’re recovered by now.

Today’s a weird one — neither holiday nor full-on work day. The banks, government offices and shopping markets are closed. The SAQ only opens at noon (thank God for deps, right?). But recycling’s being picked up, mail’s being delivered and half your friends are back at work. What to do?

It could be prime time to hit up the Botanical Gardens, Biodôme and/or Insectarium, which open at 2 p.m. today. It only costs $26 for entry to all three. Look here for details.

Pointe-à-Callière, Montreal’s history and archaeology museum, has Richard Béliveau’s formidable Samurai artifacts, along with an impressive permanent collection that you’ve gotta see at least once. And waiting for Nuit Blanche isn’t necessarily the best idea because the line-up at PAC is always brutal. 350 Place Royale, 1-5 p.m., $18/$14/$10.50/$9.50/$7

For something a little cheaper, given the annual Xmas/NYE blow to yer bank account, check this link to locate the skating arena closest to you, and call for free-skating hours. And if you’re skating alone, bring your iPod. Seriously.

And whether you’re working or not, it’s a fine time to see Searching for Sugar Man, the strange and touching story of a forgotten ’70s musician, and one of the most talked-about documentaries of the year. Cinéma du Parc (3575 Parc), 8:30 p.m., $11.50
