It’s day one of les Grands Ballets’ annual non-profit Christmas market, Le Marché Casse-Noisette, featuring all kinds of gift ideas, crafts, baked goods and the like. The Nutcracker Fund for Children gets 10 per cent of all profits, giving underprivileged kids access to cultural outings and activities, and helping to cover the costs of the annual kiddie Xmas ballet performance of The Nutcracker. Palais de congrès de Montréal (1001 Jean-Paul-Riopelle), 11 a.m.–7 p.m., free

Local artist and entertainer Alexis O’Hara presents Squeeeeque! The Improbable Igloo, an interactive sound and immersive installation of a “speakerbox” igloo. The vernissage is tonight. Maison de la Culture Maisonneuve (4200 Ontario E.), 6 p.m., free

Centaur Theatre’s amazing production of Good People has drawn a lot of kudos, and if the play’s meditation on class politics piqued your interest, there’s a talk about income disparity and class, touching on the play’s themes, at “Chat Up” featuring The Gazette’s David Johnston and Old Brewery Mission director James Hughes. Seagram Gallery (747 Victoria Square), 7 p.m., free

It’s opening night of the Concordia theatre department, which presents Peleus and Thetis, directed by Harry Standjofski. The play is an update of a Greek classic with a twist of Jingju (Chinese opera), the outcome of a student exchange program between the drama departments at Con U and the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts. D.B. Clarke Theatre (1455 de Maisonneuve W.), 8 p.m., $5–10

See local turntablist extraordinaire Kid Koala on the Vinyl Vaudeville tour in support of his latest record, 12 Bit Blues. Expect puppets, robots, dancing girls (and various combinations thereof), a giant cardboard turntable and NYC’s Adira Amram and the Experience leading a “musical comedy workout” warm-up. Corona Theatre (2490 Notre-Dame W.), 8 p.m., $25, all ages

Prepare for some block-rocking electro-headbanger music care of Montreal’s Plaster, and don’t miss the opener Black Atlass, who just might fight the indie R&B crown away from the Weeknd. Club Soda (1225 St-Laurent), 8 p.m., $17/$22

Local rockers The Lookout launch their first album, which you’ll get for free for price of admission. O Patro Vys (365 Mont-Royal), 9 p.m., $10
