Midnight’s Children

Plenty to choose from at the Festival du nouveau cinéma today, including Lacan Palestine, a political collage from Canadian experimental filmmaker Mike Holbloom (Excentris, 3536 St-Laurent, 1:30 p.m.); Midnight’s Children, a Salman Rushdie adaptation from Deepa Mehta (Imperial Theatre, 1432 Bleury, 3 p.m.) and Boredom, the latest from local documentarian Albert Nerenberg (Excentris, 7:45 p.m.)

Indie presses Snare and Invisible are teaming up for a double book launch, for new works by Laura Broadbent and Andy Szmanski, respectively. Sparrow (5322 St-Laurent), 9 p.m.

Catch artist and activist Jesusa Rodriguez’s latest politico cabaret, Dialogos entre Darwin y Dios, featuring Rodriguez in both the titular roles, with musical accompaniment by Liliana Felipe. La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 8–9:30 p.m., $15–$30

Beach House is sold out, so why not fall under the spell of local singer/guitarist Maica Mia (as frequently recommended by our rock columnist Johnson Cummins). She headlines with support from Sathönay and Regis Victor. Divan Orange (4234 St-Laurent), 9:30 p.m., $10
