Large majority of Canadians agree Ukraine should be allowed to join NATO

“If Canadians had their way, Ukraine would have been allowed into NATO three years ago.”

According to a study by the Angus Reid Institute, a large majority of Canadians agree that Ukraine should be allowed to join NATO.

2 in 3 Canadians (64%) say Ukraine should be allowed into the alliance, while 19% do not.

NATO allies have an obligation to militarily defend member states from acts of aggression.

“Ukraine has long requested to join NATO in order to receive the military support of that alliance. Since the war broke out in 2022, NATO allies have offered immense levels of support but have not allowed for membership. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said recently that his country does not support Ukraine admission as a part of the peace process with Russia. Russian officials have also indicated that Ukraine must be excluded from NATO as a condition of any potential peace deal.”
