Support for the Conservative Party of Canada decreases with education

The less educated you are, the more likely you are to vote Conservative.

According to a study by the Angus Reid Institute, there is an inverse relationship between education and support for the Conservative Party of Canada.

The study found that the Conservatives have 46% support among Canadians with a high school diploma, and 41% among college and trade school graduates. Just 27% of Canadians with university degrees support the Conservative Party of Canada, significantly less than those who support the Liberal Party (57%), whose support increases the more educated one is.

It’s worth noting that studies show a positive relationship between education and critical thinking skills. Higher education has been shown to improve critical thinking in a variety of ways, including through problem solving and active learning. A lack of critical thinking skills may also explain why Conservatives are significantly more likely to believe disinformation and vote against their own self-interest.

Studies also demonstrate a positive relationship between education and empathy through exposure to diverse perspectives. For example, people who are more educated are generally more likely to acknowledge social injustice.

While there is no clear correlation between support for the Conservatives and age or income, there is an obvious gender divide: men (47%) are significantly more likely to vote Conservative than women (32%).

The Angus Reid study found that the Liberals are leading in the polls with 44%, followed by the Conservatives (40%) and Bloc Québécois (7%).
