Witches – Out of the Shadows exhibition explores complex history with 400+ artifacts

Montreal archaeology and history museum Pointe-à-Callière hosts this exhibition through April 6, 2025.

The latest exhibit at Montreal’s museum of archaeology and history, Pointe-à-Callière, takes visitors on a journey through the complex history of witches, featuring over 400 artifacts such as manuscripts, paintings and ethnographic objects from Europe and America. The exhibition explores the roots of witchcraft, including the brutal witch hunts of the 16th and 17th centuries, which led to the persecution of many women. Interactive displays allow visitors to engage with traditional practices like divination, spells and healing rituals. The show also examines the shifting image of the witch, from the old crone of folklore to today’s powerful feminist icon.

Witches – Out of the Shadows is on at Pointe-à-Callière (350 Place Royale) through April 6, 2025
