Politicians need to stop politicizing Canadian pride

A study by the Angus Reid Institute has found that 2 in 3 Canadians (67%) say they’re proud to be Canadian. This sentiment is largely held by those in every province, except Alberta and Saskatchewan, where Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre is most popular. Go figure!

Less than 50% of Conservatives now say they’re proud to be Canadian — hardly surprising considering Poilievre’s cheap rhetoric, relentless fear-mongering and incessant need to talk down Canada with his narrative that “Canada is broken.”

Politicians need to stop politicizing Canadian pride.

Just 26% of Conservatives agree that Canada is a country whose values align with their own, significantly lower than with Liberal (77%) and NDP (57%) voters.

Politicians need to stop politicizing Canadian pride

Pierre Poilievre has had no shame in trying to rise in the polls by riling up anti-Canadian sentiment. (He’s also shamelessly pandered to alt-right extremist groups.) Don’t fall for it.
