Quebec blackout

Quebec blackout: Over 10,000 remain without power in Montreal and Laval

More than 13,000 Hydro-Québec customers across the province are still in the dark six days after last week’s ice storm.

Hydro-Québec officials are still working to restore power for the remaining 13,000 Hydro customers who are still in the dark following last Wednesday’s ice storm. While many Montrealers regained electricity over the long weekend, according to the latest count (at 7 a.m. today), there are still over 10,000 Hydro customers in Montreal and Laval without electricity. At the height of this week’s Quebec blackout, 1.1 million households had lost power.

Two people in Quebec died in the aftermath of the storm: one due to a falling branch and one due to carbon monoxide poisoning. In Montreal, 135 were reportedly hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning after attempting alternative heating methods.

Hydro-Québec officials said that while they have resolved the blackout for 95% of customers affected after the storm, they are currently working in areas where power is more difficult to restore, meaning that progress will be slower.
