Denis Coderre Quebec Liberal Party leader

Denis Coderre early favourite to replace Dominique Anglade as Quebec Liberal Party leader

A wide range of bizarre potential replacements has emerged following Anglade’s resignation yesterday.

According to a study by Léger, former Montreal Mayor and federal MP Denis Coderre is the early favourite to replace Dominique Anglade as leader of the Quebec Liberal Party. Anglade announced yesterday that she is resigning from her roles as Liberal Party leader and MNA for Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne.

The study finds Denis Coderre leading with 17% support among Quebec Liberal Party voters, followed by former Liberal MNA Pierre Moreau, Hydro-Québec CEO Sophie Brochu and former Health Minister Gaétan Barrette, who are all polling at 4%.

The same study also found that just 55% of Quebec Liberal Party voters wanted Dominique Anglade to remain as leader, which Léger President Jean-Marc Léger says is “too weak to win a vote of confidence.”
