Valérie Plante reacts to racist incident in LaSalle: “This behaviour has no place in Montreal”

The Mayor also confirmed that the Hate Crimes unit of the SPVM are investigating the incident.

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante has reacted to a viral video of a racist rage incident in Montreal last week, whereby a LaSalle couple were verbally assaulted by a man who told them to “go back to India or Pakistan.”

During an interview with LCN, Plante confirmed that the Hate Crimes unit of the SPVM are investigating the incident. She condemned the actions of the man, referring to Montreal as “inclusive and open,” and saying that the behaviour has no place in this city.

“It’s not acceptable. The Hate Crimes unit of the SPVM is investigating the video. Everyone has a right to live in peace, without fear of being insulted like this. The investigation is open. Montreal is an inclusive and open city. This behaviour has no place. I denounce it and we will see what information the investigation brings.”
