Valérie Plante: “Montreal is committed to the path of reconciliation”

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante has released a statement on reconciliation to mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, a day pronounced by the United Nations each year to raise awareness and protect the rights of the world’s Indigenous population.

Plante reiterated the City of Montreal’s commitment to reconciliation, as well as social and economic equality for all.

“On this International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, let us highlight their resilience, their diversity and their richness. Montreal is committed to the path of reconciliation, for a fairer future and greater social and economic equality among peoples.”

In June, Plante also spoke about the importance of reconciliation on National Indigenous Peoples Day, saying that “Montreal will continue to develop strong government-to-government relationships with Indigenous communities.”
