The Montreal Pride Parade will return next year

“An independent investigation will shed light on the cancellation of the parade and make recommendations to ensure the success of future editions.”

The last-minute cancellation of the Montreal Pride Parade, which had been scheduled to take place on Sunday, Aug. 7, prompted much criticism and calls for answers, from the LGBTQ2IA+ community as well as officials like Mayor Valérie Plante. After Fierté Montreal Pride clarified in media interviews on Monday that the organization had failed to hire roughly 100 volunteers for security purposes, they issued a statement today, as did Plante.

“I’m very satisfied with my meeting with Fierté Montreal Pride, which accepted that an independent investigation shed light on the cancellation of the parade and make recommendations to ensure the success of future editions.”

Fierté Montreal Pride tweeted the following statement.

“The Fierté Montreal Pride Board of Directors thanks its communities and partners for the renewed trust in the organization, after seven days of activities to celebrate inclusion and diversity.

That said, the Board of Directors remains determined to shed light on the reasons that led to the cancellation of the parade and is continuing to meet with those in charge of the organization who made this decision at the last minute.

This is why Montreal Pride welcomes the contribution of the City of Montreal to the work of the post-mortem committee created last Sunday by the board of directors.”
