City of Montreal confirms it will not defund the SPVM

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante has released a statement confirming that the City of Montreal does not intend to defund the SPVM.

Plante held a press conference on Wednesday to discuss measures that the SPVM is planning to put into place in an attempt to counter gun violence, including the hiring of 282 more officers.

“The amounts allocated by the government for the SPVM go to the SPVM,” said Plante.

“Our management of public finances is irreproachable, it is what defines us.”
