The CCA’s Parc Baile hosts the Tillitarniit festival of Inuit films, shows & games

The Inuk-curated outdoor film screening series takes place on Thursdays from July 28 through Sept. 10.

This summer, the Canadian Centre for Architecture is hosting the third edition of the Tillitarniit festival in its outdoor space, Parc Baile. The Mandy Hands edition of Tillitarniit was curated by Inuk visual artist and filmmaker asinnajaq (the festival’s cofounder), with programming that complements the CCA’s ongoing exhibition ᐊᖏᕐᕋᒧᑦ / Ruovttu Guvlui / Towards Home. Along with film screenings, the festival promises free outdoor Inuit games and performances nearly every Thursday from July 28 through Sept. 10.

On its opening night, July 28, the festival presents the Montreal premiere of Akornatsinniittut Tarrata Nunaann (In The Land of Our Shadows), the first film in Marc Fussing Rosbach’s Among Us saga. A screening of the film’s sequel, Akornatsinniittut Kilnappalik (The Masked Man), will close the festival on Sept. 10. The film programming covers a wide range of genres, from documentary to sci-fi to horror to queer cinema. The Aug. 25 event, which is the Queer Film Night, promises four experimental short films, dance performance and concert by Simik and Qattuu Carleton.

Participants are asked to bring their own chairs (cushions will be provided) as well as blankets, snacks and cups for refreshments that will be available on site. In the event of rain, activities will be held inside the CCA, at Théâtre Paul-Desmarais.
