Tornado alert in effect for southwestern Quebec

Environment Canada is advising extra precaution for Lachute and Saint-Jérôme, roughly one hour northwest of Montreal.

Quebec Public Security has just shared a tornado alert by Environment Canada for Lachute, Quebec, a town 1 hour and 14 minutes northwest of Montreal.

People in the area, as well as in Saint-Jérôme, are being advised to take shelter immediately if a tornado approaches.

“At 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, Environment Canada issued a tornado alert for southwestern Quebec. Additional attention and precautions should be exercised near and around the following localities: Lachute and Saint-Jérôme. Environment Canada meteorologists are monitoring a severe thunderstorm possibly producing a tornado. Destructive winds, heavy hail and intense rain in places are also possible.”
