Festival Nuits d’Afrique starts today!

700+ artists from 30+ countries are playing ticketed and free shows as part of the 36th edition of the Montreal music fest from July 12 to 24.

The 36th edition of Festival Nuits d’Afrique will be showcasing the sounds of Africa and the diaspora for Montreal music fans for 13 days, from July 12–24. There will be over 150 shows, including ticketed indoor shows at MTelus, le Ministère, Club Balattou, le Gesu, Theatre Fairmount, as well as free outdoor shows in the Quartier des Spectacles, where vendors and family-friendly activities will also be set up during the day from July 19–24.

Following tonight’s festival kick-off performances by Lindingo, Ghetto Kumbé and Blaise Labamba & Kotakoli, Nuits d’Afrique has its official opening show at MTelus on Wedneday, July 13, with Côte d’Ivoire reggae star Tiken Jah Fakoly and opener Joyce N’Sana.

The outdoor programming portion of the festival, featuring free outdoor concerts as well as the Village Nuits d’Afrique, featuring vendors and family-friendly activities, is happening in a Quartier des Spectacles space twice the size as in previous editions, incorporating both the Place des Festivals and the Esplanade Tranquille.
