A major cancellation and a major consolation among Montreal shows this week

Beach House are playing their amazing latest album in its entirety at MTelus this weekend, topping our weekly Montreal shows roundup.

Sadly I have to start this column off with some bummer news. Bikini Kill has had to cancel their makeup show that would have happened on Monday at M Telus, after a stack of pandemic postponements.

Bikini Kill have been forced to postpone their July 18 Montreal show

The band sent out a tweet a couple of days ago saying they would have to bow out of four shows due to illness l, so keep yer eyes peeled here for yet another make up date. Bummer in the summer!

Thursday: I guess if you’re into bands where one singer has a voice that seems to purr “Daddy didn’t hug me” while another singer shrieks away about how “no one understands me,” then I guess you’re doing the electric boogaloo over Alexisonfire playing not one night but (gulp) two nights (that would be tonight and Friday, don’t make me write this up again under the Friday heading) at MTelus. Here’s the real big news, though: as holding up the sweat act spot on both nights is none other than noise punkers Metz, and you better love ‘em a lot as this gig ain’t cheap. 59 Ste-Catherine E., doors 6 p.m., show 7:30 p.m. (Friday and Saturday), $71.50

It would seem that Toronto has really taken over Thursday night as post-punk synth duder Theo Vandenhoff will turn on Casa with the solid support of Sineila, the busiest man in Montreal Mickey Dagger and Awwful. 4873 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $18

Saturday: Those of you hepcats who like some bang in their twang and set their reverb tanks for the heart of the sun will not want to miss the surf and turf of Grand Kahuna and les Seperatwists. Making this cool-as-fug show mandatory is that it’s happening at l’Esco. 4461 St-Denis, 9 p.m.

Admittedly, I was a bit of a latecomer to Beach House but after being lambasted by complete nerd record collectors on forums I frequent for remaining ignorant to their jams, I have changed my ways. True, Bikini Kill was taken away this week, but I may find solace in dunking my frontal Lobe into Beach House’s dream pop. Best of all is that Beach House will be performing the entirety of their most recent weighty nugget Once Twice Melody. Opening will be harpist Mary Lattimore, at MTelus. 59 Ste-Catherine E., 6:30 p.m., (cough) $98.40 (cough)

Turbo Haüs is of course repping for the weekend and will host Force Majeure, launching a seven-inch with Ottawa’s Iron Side and Deadbolt. All of this tough as nails hardcore and street punk is all well and good, but you will definitely want to cool yer heels here for the rest of the night as there will be a DJ set by Homsc and hosts the Montreal Soul Club will keep it shakin’ like a bowl of soup. 2040 St-Denis, 8 p.m., $10
