Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Montreal today, with strong winds, risk of tornadoes

“Please exercise caution if you have outdoor activities planned on Thursday.”

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Montreal today, with conditions capable of producing strong wind gusts, heavy rain and even tornadoes.

There is currently a risk of strong thunderstorms in Montreal between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m.

According to the Weather Network, lightning causes injuries and deaths every year in Canada, and Canadians are reminded to remain indoors during thunderstorms.

“Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water.”
