François Legault in talks about Guy Lafleur state funeral, highway renaming

“All of Quebec is in mourning.”

In a press conference this afternoon, Quebec Premier François Legault reacted to the death of Guy Lafleur and revealed that he is in talks with the family of the late hockey legend about planning a state funeral. He is also discussing proposals to rename Highway 50 in Lafleur’s honour, as Autoroute Guy Lafleur.

“We are in discussions with the family to organize a state funeral. We are all in mourning and it’s normal that the whole population can say goodbye to Guy Lafleur. Number 10 will be in our collective memory forever, so thank you Guy.”

Legault also said that the provincial government is opening a register for condolences at quebec.ca, for those who wish to “write a quick word” to Lafleur’s family.
