WeCook is delivering some damn fine poutines for Poutine Week

Montreal ready-made meal company WeCook is participating in the 10th annual edition of la Poutine Week. WeCook is joining 80+ restaurants across the city in preparing some stellar poutines, offering four takes on Quebec’s national dish from Feb. 1 through Feb. 14. And to celebrate the new poutines on their menu, WeCook is offering Cult MTL readers $60 off their first two orders.

With the recent hiring of former Joe Beef chef Gab Drapeau, WeCook is getting a little fancy with their variations on poutine, while staying true to the company’s mandate of preparing meals that are satisfying in every respect.

The four WeCook poutines that we tried were hearty, delicious and nutritious, using mostly lean meats and sweet potato fries in every dish, along with the staple cheese curds and a variety of gravies.

The Steak Frite poutine was a highlight, with sliced beef, caramelized onions and a delicious five-pepper gravy, complemented by cream, cognac, chives, green peppercorns and garlic. The Philly Cheesesteak poutine was an unexpected hit, turning a frankly trashy concept into an enticing combo featuring tender beef, red and green peppers, mushrooms, honey, onions, garlic, Italian spices and a gluten-free demi-glace gravy.

Meat lovers should be quick to dig in to the Fully Loaded Poutine, which includes smoked meat, roma sausages and deer (!), with Worcestershire sauce, mustard, cream and brandy mixing with the demi-glace gravy AND extra flavour from green peppercorns, garlic and chives. And finally, who doesn’t love chorizo? WeCook keeps the Chorizo Poutine simple (and a little sweet) with sweet white onions, demi-glace, garlic, pepper and a generous portion of spicy pork sausage. ■
