Quebec parent supervisors allowed to wear visible religious symbols in schools, exempt from Bill 21

Quebec plans to bring parents in to supervise classes should teachers be out sick.

CTV reporter Kelly Greig confirmed last night that if a parent supervisor was called into the classroom in Quebec, they wouldn’t technically be considered a teacher and would therefore be exempt from Bill 21, allowing them to wear visible religious symbols.

The news comes as Quebec plans to bring parents in to supervise classes should teachers be out sick due to COVID-19.

Premier François Legault confirmed Wednesday that the return to in-person learning, from elementary and high school to CEGEP and university, received the green light from public health. Schools across the province are due to re-open on Monday.
