Mike Ward offered 25 individual homeless shelters to the city of Montreal

“A simple yes from you and no one else will freeze to death this winter.”

Montreal comedian Mike Ward tweeted a message to Mayor Valérie Plante this afternoon, reiterating an offer that he says he made last year to provide the city with individual shelters to protect homeless people from the cold. This follows the second death of a homeless person in Montreal during cold snaps in the past two weeks.

“I had 25 shelters built (for homeless people) which I offered to your team last year. The offer still stands.

“These are wooden tents, insulated, heated with the heat of the human body. They are comfortable up to -30. Designed for people most at risk, those who refuse to sleep in shelters. Tiny houses are built and paid for.

Give the go-ahead and I can have them installed within week. A simple yes from you and no one else will freeze to death this winter.”

Plante thanked Ward for his offer, and said that the city of Montreal is working with health and community organizations to ensure the safety of the homeless.

“Thank you for your offer, Mike Ward. We don’t want to leave anyone behind either.

“We work with health and the community so that everyone has a roof and lives in dignity. Homelessness is a complex issue that requires structured and adapted solutions.”
