Majority of Canadians want to end all restrictions, self-isolate if at risk

For the first time during the pandemic, a majority of Canadians say it’s time to end all restrictions.

According to the Angus Reid Institute, a majority of Canadians (54%) now agree that the time has come to end all restrictions and let people self-isolate if they’re at risk. A poll earlier this month found that only 39% agreed with the same statement.

A majority of Canadians agree that restrictions should be ended in every province and age demographic, except for those living in the Atlantic provinces (40%), and women aged age 18 to 34 (50%) and 55+ (40%).

“If Omicron cases have indeed peaked, it has many Canadians asking what is next. Vigilance is the request from public health officials – though plans for vaccination proof have begun to diverge, with some provinces removing requirements and restrictions. The public sentiment appears to be moving in the direction of opening up communities.”
