Looking back at the shockingly high level of support for the first Quebec curfew

74% of Quebecers initially supported the 8 p.m. curfew, which came into effect a year ago today.

According to a study by Legér conducted between Jan. 15 and 17, 2021, 3 out of 4 people in Quebec (74%) were in favour of the night-time curfew imposed to help control the spread of COVID-19. The first curfew began on Jan. 9 and lasted until May 28.

Despite strong overall support for the curfew, almost one-third (32%) of the same respondents doubted the effectiveness of the measure.

The current curfew, which begins at 10 p.m. nightly, was implemented due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant in Quebec, on Dec. 31, 2021.
