Quebec: No curfew, private gatherings & restaurant groups limited to 6

Legault says tomorrow’s case count will be over 9,000.

In response to record-high pandemic numbers and projections of an overwhelmed health system by Jan. 8, Quebec Premier François Legault announced in a press conference on Wednesday that private indoor gatherings will be limited to six as of Dec. 26, with no more than two family bubbles. Restaurants across Quebec are also being asked to limit tables to six people from two family bubbles.

Legault also asked that families postpone Christmas or other holiday gatherings if possible, or at least host only one gathering and not two. People over 60 are particularly at risk, Legault said, and ideally should stay at home.

Legault said that Thursday’s COVID-19 case count was expected to be over 9,000. Contrary to Tuesday’s report that another lockdown and curfew were imminent, the new measures are considered by public health to be sufficient to control hospitalizations in the province. The government will not hesitate to impose more restrictions if need be, according to Legault.
