Old Port of Montreal shuts down New Year’s Eve celebrations including fireworks

This afternoon the Old Port of Montreal announced that all New Year’s Eve celebrations including fireworks are being cancelled this year due to the pandemic. On Dec. 31, the Old Port will also be ending activities at 10 p.m., including the skating rink. The public is being asked to respect all safety measures in order to keep staff and other fellow humans safe.

“Given the pandemic situation, there will be no New Year’s celebrations on the site of the Old Port of Montreal, including fireworks. Avoiding gatherings to ensure the safety of our employees and visitors is our priority.

“On December 31, all activities, including the skating rink, will close at 10 p.m. We are counting on the collaboration of visitors so that sanitary measures are respected and allow everyone’s safety.”

Before Christmas, Montréal en Fêtes (aka Merry Montreal) cancelled concerts by Émilie Bilodeau and Radio Radio, which had been scheduled to take place on Dec. 31 at Dorchester and Victoria squares in Old Montreal.
