Montreal wants the 2021 Formula 1 Grand Prix to be held on schedule

Mayor Valérie Plante is urging government partners to make it happen this year.

La Presse is reporting that Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante has voiced her support for the idea of holding the Formula 1 Grand Prix on schedule this year — on June 13. This follows the cancellation of the event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“For us, Formula 1 is important, and the message we want to send to all the partners is that we have great interest in this event. We want it to be held on the same date as usual. There are still a lot of details to work out, but I really want our government partners to join us in making this event happen this summer. “

Plante’s comments were made during an executive committee meeting this morning.

Whether the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix will happen at all this year, on schedule or not, depends on the state of the pandemic in Montreal, and on getting a green light from Quebec public health authorities.
