It’s National Suicide Prevention Week — Here’s how the picture has changed since COVID

Suicide Action Montreal can be reached at 1(866) 277-3553.

This week is National Suicide Prevention week and this year’s theme is “Talking about suicide saves lives.” There are currently three suicides per day in Quebec, 75% of them in men between the ages of 35 and 65. Since 2016, there has been an increase in suicide attempts among girls between 10 and 14 years old. According to Suicide Action Montreal, since the pandemic began, thoughts of suicide are twice as prevalent in young adults and the elderly.

All month, Suicide Action Montreal will be presenting a series of videos on social media called Tombent les masques, encouraging Quebecers to be more open about suicide. Help is available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Suicide Action Montreal can be reached at 1(866)277-3553 (1(866)APPELLE).
