“Past Eight” is set to OneRepublic’s “Apologize.”

A year ago, after Quebec imposed a curfew for the first time, Montrealer Johnny Laurelli made a music video about the authoritarian public health measure, which ultimately lasted from Jan. 9 till May 28, 2021. While the current curfew, which came into effect on Dec. 31, begins at 10 p.m. nightly, last year’s began at 8 p.m., hence the title of the video, “Past Eight.” Laurelli’s song is set to the OneRepublic song “Apologize.”

Laurelli’s reference to a “half-assed lockdown” refers to the widely criticized reopening of schools after Christmas break. This year, schools are scheduled to reopen on Jan. 17.
