Jungle, For Ever (XL)

Jungle have one song they do over and over, but they do it well. With surgical precision, actually, which isn’t surprising considering their whole existence is about continually refining their formula until they finally achieve the perfect Bee Gees-lite tune, at which point I’d assume they’d ride off into the sunset. And I don’t mean that like it’s a bad thing, either. We live in a time of dabbling, whether it’s styles, looks or playlists. If you’re not hopping onto the next thing, you’re motionless. I kinda respect these Brits for thinking there’s no world beyond funky basslines and falsettos. Maybe there isn’t one. Leon Bridges left the confines of old rhythm and blues and it kinda stunk. Jungle are content to keep dancing. 8/10 Trial Track: “Heavy, California”
