This is underground music’s week to shine

The Suoni per il Popolo festival is now well underway and will run through June 18. The real big picks though are shows that you won’t necessarily see in this column — just leave it to chance! Due to the eclectic nature of the festival and its heartfelt dedication to underground music of any stripe, you can just mosey into their main footholds of Casa, Sala and la Vitrola and be completely blown away without having a peep at their programming guide. Happy hunting!

Friday: Not only is Suoni really blowing up this week but you can get some free Fringe Fest gigs in at Parc des Amériques, including Bernard Laker, Sheenah Ko with Brittney Canda. This provides your perfect start to the weekend and is happening at the sunny hour of 6:45 p.m. St-Laurent & Rachel, 6:45 p.m., free

For a good dose of horror punk, catch les Necrophiliacs when they open for Boar God and garage duo the Castagnes at the lovely and romantic confines of Bistro de Paris. 4536 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $5/PWYC

At le Ritz you can line up for the free water cooler and catch An Horse, Camp Cope and Heart Beach. 179 Jean-Talon W., 7 p.m., $16/$20

In case you missed the Frisky Kids the past four times they played last month, you can get another chance to catch these fuzzed out brats at l’Escogriffe, with All Day Breakfast and Okies. 4461 St-Denis, 9 p.m.,  free

Friday is a prime night for Suoni. First, they’re hosting the warped country of Orville Peck with the Submissives and the synth pop of Night Lunch at Casa. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10/$15

For a sound that’ll leave blood on the walls, head to la Vitrola to catch the dark punk of Beantown’s Sadist with Omerta, the d-beat wallop of Mueco, Cpu Rave and Spacers. 4602 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10

For a guaranteed good evening out, soak in the stoner rock of Halifax’s Kilmore with the superb pop of the Mighty Ffud and the Brie Face at Barfly. 4062 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $5/PWYC

Just down the street from Barfly, you can also sink yer whiskers into some cold ones at North Star as the Punk Police spin some dusty sides of garage, new wave, punk post wave and all that other good shit. 3908 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., free

Saturday: If you are part of the doom and gloom set and are swishing to the sounds of goth, industrial and ’80s new wave, you are probably already hip to the monthly night Nevermore with DJ Faith and Uriel at Katacombes. 1635 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $6/$8

For those of you who would rather don a tennis shirt and swing a pint around, you can make it Foufs to catch Street Dogs with the New Dark Buster and the Barstool Preachers. 87 St-Catherine E., 7 p.m., $20/$22

This is dangerously close to my big pick of the week and will probably be Suoni’s biggest moment: queercore gods Limp Wrist will show the young’uns what real hardcore is at Sala with Black Plague, Pelada, Ninos Rata, Odd and Dead Dog. This will be punk as fuck in every sense of the word. 4848 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $15/$18

Limp Wrist is sure to be fucking rad, but my big pick of the week will go to the brutal beatdown of Full of Hell with Gatekeeper, Apes, Patent and Detainee at le Ritz. AAAArrrrggghhhhh. 179 Jean-Talon W., 7 p.m., $15/$18

Sunday: It’s sure to be completely packed when Ministry’s Chris Connelly lays down some serious industrial wallop with Radio Void, but only the really non-poseurs will be at la Vitrola early to catch the screening of Industrial Accident: The Story of Wax Tracks Records at 6:30. Who knows, maybe showing up that early will guarantee you entrance to Connelly, which is sure to sell out. Who luvs ya, babe?! 4602 St-Laurent, 6:30 p.m. (show starts at 10 p.m.), $10/$13

Monday: Fans of indie rock and former crowd surfers are going to want to get a babysitter for Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks with Lithics at Fairmount. 5240 Parc, 7:30 p.m., $26.25/$29.25

Tuesday: True, I walked out of a Cold Cave show as I found their revisionism and lack of substance as cool as an aging rockabilly duder, but what the fug do I know – I’m bald and into gardening. If you dare to be cooler than me, you can catch them at Fairmount with Black Marble and Choir Boy. 5240 Parc, 7 p.m., $23.75/$28.75

If you’re looking for some angst-ridden dudecore, you’ll want to drag yer sorry ass to le Ritz for the he-man hardcore of Keep Flying, Taken for Granted and Called Out. 179 Jean-Talon W., 7:30 p.m., $8/$10

Wednesday: I typically shit on a lot of newer bands, especially when they’re aping an already decades’-old genre, but fug I gotta hand it to the Aussie kids King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard as they utterly destroy live, in a way that checks the boxes in my callous and black heart. This all goes down at l’Olympia with openers Amyl and the Sniffers. 1004 Ste-Catherine E., 8 p.m., $25/$30
