REVIEW: Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap

Victory Lap is unapologetically West Coast.

Nipsey Hussle, Victory Lap (Atlantic)

Nipsey Hussle is just about hip hop’s only seasoned vet who had yet to drop an album, until now. Years of building a name on the mixtape circuit translates to a polished formal debut. Despite first stepping onto the scene nearly 13 years ago, Hussle possesses the same determination of a newcomer. Victory Lap is unapologetically West Coast. However, there is no latching onto the recent success of Cali counterparts such as YG and Kendrick Lamar (who both deliver stellar guest spots), with the rapper opting to create his own blend of bouncy, braggadocious anthems. If you’re looking to get your grind on, this is the album for you.
