The annual film fest Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma kicks off today with the invite-only opening screening, plus a public exhibition of storyboard art and an opening dance party with Qualité de Luxe DJs Poirier, Mr. Touré! and Kyou plus visuals by BenaBALLah at Cinématheque québécoise. 335 de Maisonneuve E., exhibition open 12–8 p.m., dance party at 10 p.m., both events are free)

Mile End animé shop Panda Parade hosts their very first animé film night at Art Lounge MTL, where they’ll be screening the 2001 sci-fi film Metropolis directed by Rintaro — the film is adapted from Astro Boy creator Osamu Tezuka’s 1949 Magna comic which was itself based on the famous Fritz Lang. 160 St-Viateur W., 6:30 p.m., free

Anyone suffering from Walking Dead withdrawal can get their zombie fix at le Ritz, where Kopfkino’s screening of Danny Boyle’s acclaimed 2001 film 28 Days Later is going down. But watch out, these zombies move fast. 179 Jean-Talon W., screening at 8 p.m., $5

Montreal’s comedy community comes together to laugh all the way to the bank with tonight’s fundraiser show The Woke’s on You, benefitting the Canadian Women’s Foundation, with stand-up, improv and sketch comedy from host (and Cult MTL columnist) Ellie MacDonald plus Emma Wilkie, Damsel Washington, Gina Granter, Shawn Stenhouse and improv troupe Improvabilities. From Washington, D.C., sister duo Oshun bring their Afrofuturist approach to soul and hip hop to Newspeak. 1403 Ste-Elisabeth, 9 p.m., $18/$23
