Catch a matinee of the Centaur Theatre Company’s new production, The Baklawa Recipe, a play by Pascal and directed by Emma Tibaldo that depicts an alternative view of Montreal in the 1960s — through the eyes (and phone calls) of immigrants. Check out a workshop about self-producing by Fringe Fest/MainLine Theatre executive and artistic director Amy Blackmore, addressing the dos and don’ts of DIY production and on topics such as marketing, fundraising, production, finances and administration. The Phi Centre launches the brand-new Virtual Reality installation The Enemy, an affecting and intimate journey through the experiences of six combatants involved in some of the world’s most bitter conflicts from Palestine to Congo, in collaboration with photojournalist Karim Ben Khelifa and the NFB. 407 St-Pierre, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., $15.50/$13 students

Have yourself a very retro pre-Valentine’s weekend with tonight’s V-day edition of the all-vinyl vintage soul dance party Mess Around in its last edition at Divan Orange before the Plateau venue closes its doors later this spring, with special guest DJ Tommy JC. 4234 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $5

Another all-vinyl party is happening at le Ritz, though DJs InYourFace and Sarcastic are proposing a different beat: Techno on Vinyl, a night of techno, acid, breakbeat and house. 179 Jean-Talon W., 10 p.m., $5/free before 11:30 p.m.

Montreal’s beatmaker-focused promoter Artbeat hosts this year’s annual Montreal Loves Dilla party in honour of the late, great producer J Dilla, going down at Artgang with special guests Manzo (Sunday Scratch Sessions), Toast Dawg (Brown), Ephiks, Docteur Mad (Voyage Funktastique), DJ Manifest, Sev Dee (Artbeat, K6A) and Mark the Magnanimous (Artbeat, K6A).
