The metro

In collaboration with the Festival du nouveau cinéma, First Nations audiovisual organization Wapikoni presents the premiere of a selection of short films created by young indigenous filmmakers. 1430 Bleury, 5 p.m., $10

Multimedia dance performance Made in China — by Vancouver choreographer Wen Wei Wang, Gao Yanjinzi (artistic director of the Beijing Modern Dance Company), musician Qiu Xia He and media artist Sammy Chien — begins a two-night run at the MAI. The intimate show is said to incorporate the artists’ personal histories from China’s cultural revolution. 3680 Jeanne-Mance, 8 p.m., $25, runs to Saturday

As part of the ongoing (and already in progress) eclectic alternative performing arts festival Phénomena, a cabaret show inspired by the Dada art movement will unfurl at la Sala Rossa. Meanwhile, downstairs at the Sala Rosa restaurant, Marie Davidson will DJ amid the festival’s Quartier General. 4848 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $15 for the show upstairs

We usually don’t recommend activities for home or on your digital devices — we don’t need to tell you how to use Netflix, or Netflix-and-chill for that matter — but this is something special with a local twist. Just ahead of the 50th anniversary of the metro system, filmmaker Nadine Gomez’s award-nominated 2015 short film Metro is out on VOD and is being made available to view for free by les Films de 3 mars and Embuscade Films, here.

Post-punkish Montreal band Smokes launch their new single “Porn” with a “Porn Party” at l’Esco, where they’ll be supported by fellow locals Nobro, Femme Accident and yoo doo right. 4467 St-Denis, 10 p.m., $8

Cozy Mile End nightclub Datcha invites you to shed your skin on the dancefloor to the sounds of Errhead (aka Doldrums, live on the PA) and River Lance & Skinnybones. 98 Laurier W., 11 p.m., free before midnight
