Les Deuxluxes

Several vernissages are happening this evening as the city’s art galleries launch their fall programs, but a couple of highlights include California artist Desirée Holman’s video triptych Heterotopias at Centre Skol (372 Ste-Catherine W., #314, 5:30 p.m., free) and Memphis-born, Montreal-based multidisciplinary artist Grier Edmundson’s expo Ni l’un ni l’autre exploring the relationship between art and commercialism at Mile Ex gallery Battat Contemporary (7245 Alexandra, #100, 6 p.m., free)

Join illustrator duo la Façade for a POP Montreal preview at Citizen Vintage with a special window display and pop-up shop from the designers, plus live music by Best Fern (Nick Schofield and Alexia Avina) and a DJ set by Radiant Baby. 5330 St-Laurent, 6–9 p.m., free

Don’t miss your last chance to see local funnyman Andrew Searles in his final series of Montreal shows before making the trek out to L.A. His stand-up show C’est Moi! C’est Papa Chocolat sold out during its last run so get your tickets early. ComedyWorks (1238 Bishop), 8:30 p.m., $15, continues through Saturday

Local band Bernhari, whose indie rock soundscapes have always had a cinematic quality, are putting on a what promises to be a spectacular show at la Sala Rossa, incorporating live performers and film. 4848 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $16/$18

The Fantasia and RIDM film festivals co-present The Lovers and the Despot, a new film that tells the insane story of the South Korean movie stars who were kidnapped by the North Korean government in the 1970s and forced to act in a propaganda film conceived by Kim Jong-il. Cinéma du Parc (3575 Parc), 9 p.m., $12.50/$11 young adults (14-25) and seniors

Catch Montreal modern rockabilly duo les Deuxluxes as they launch their new record Springtime Devil at Cabaret la Tulipe. 4530 Papineau, 9 p.m., $10
