Wellington

Avenue Mont-Royal’s end-of-summer sidewalk sale has a new name, RU: Réappropriation Urbaine, but we can still expect the same festive atmosphere of deals, art installations, live painting plus musical performances over the next few days, by acts including Radio Radio, Socalled and Samuele. Mont-Royal from St-Laurent to Iberville, 10 a.m.–10 p.m., free, continues to Sunday

For those in the southwest, it’s also sidewalk sale weekend along Verdun’s Wellington Street, with one of today’s highlight events being Vinyl Verdun’s weekend-long record fair at the Librairie les Bons Débarras. 4646 Wellington, 11 a.m. –5 p.m., free, continues to Sunday

Head to the SAT for the vernissage of this season’s Virtual Reality exhibition, Le Vertige des Autres, and see the world through an artist’s eyes. Stick around afterwards for the final edition of this summer’s Dômesicle summer dance party under the SAT’s unique 3D dome, complete with trippy 360 degree projections and tunes from DJs Adam Husa and Jimmy Be. 1201 St-Laurent, vernissage + terrasse BBQ from 6 p.m., free, Dômesicle party from 10 p.m., $8/$6 in advance

Improbably, the perpetually troubled and mediocre Montreal World Film Festival is back for another edition, beginning tonight (presumably — the bulk of their staff walked out two days ago and Cineplex has withdrawn as a screening location) with André Forcier’s new film Kiss Me Like a Lover. The festival runs through Sept. 5. (See our series of about the history of MWFF here.)

Local black metal band Deathbringer launch their first album (and make their live debut) with openers Spectral Wound and DJ Satannick. L’Hemisphère Gauche (221 Beaubien E.), 9 p.m., $10

Local experimental rock band Avec le Soleil Sortant de sa Bouche play la Sala Rossa with Molly Sweeney and Yoo Doo Right. 4848 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $5–$10 PWYC
