facebookIn these continuing dog days of summer, a stunning number of hot shows are happening in our local haunts. Check it.

Thursday: A night of modern psych and swooning crooning is guaranteed at Sala with Avec le Soleil Sortant de sa Bouche and openers Molly Sweeney and You Doo Right. 4848 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $5-$10/PWYC (no one turned away)

A night of heaviosity can be had at la Vitrola with Mars Red Sky and Show of Bedlam, who’ve broken their hiatus. 4602 St-Laurent,  9:30 p.m., $8/$10

My big pick of the week is Deathbringer, who are launching their new record tonight, along with one of my favourite bands in the city (who really don’t play out much), Spectral Wound with Cauchemar’s DJ Satannick keeping things spinning at l’Hemisphère Gauche. 221 Beaubien E., 9 p.m., $10

Friday: A perfect Friday night can be spent at Barfly as Gwendalyn serves up the suds and If We Are Machines, A Devil’s Duo, CFCQ and the Piss of Assurance serve up the rawk. 4062 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $5

Help celebrate Analogue Addiction’s third year of putting together great bills with a show at Quai des Brumes featuring Chocolat, Odonis Odonis and Derm Kean & an Incredible Woman. 4481 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $12

The fourth installment of Subversive: Future Proof Music has kicked up a killer bill at Casa with Scene Noir, Taylor Hoodlum Stevenson and Sheenah Ko (of the Besnard Lakes). 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., PWYC

At Katacombes you can catch the first of the two-night Rockabilly vs. Psychobilly Weekend featuring Doghouse Rose, Lyse and the Hot Kitchen, the Black Moon Boys, the Creepshow and the Gutter Demons. 1635 St-Laurent, doors 8 p.m., $25

Saturday: The Rockabilly vs. Psychobilly Weekend continues at Katacombes with Midnight Boppers, Hellbound Hepcats, the Matadors, Rip Goesmental, the Lab Ratz and L.A.’s Resurex. 1635 St-Laurent, doors 8 p.m., $25

For a night of solid local sounds, make your way to la Vitrola to catch Silver Dapple, Auks and Nuage Flou. 4602 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $5

The big HC hoedown this week is happening at Casa for Halifax’s Outcry with Sexface, Drip, Ultrarat and Grosser. 4873 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $7

Wednesday: If the Spectral Wound show has you hot under the collar, you may want to get your heavy on twice this week: Check out Monolord as they pack up Turbo Haus with Sweat Lodge and Aianasca. Give Sergio a kiss on the cheek for me. 5011 Notre-Dame W., 7:30 p.m., $16/$18

Adam Strangler are gaining some serious traction these days, playing a show at la Vitrola with Security. 4602 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $8

And finally, Adam Strangler’s brothers in arms UUBBUURRUU will cast their dark psych spell at l’Esco with Population II. 4467 St-Denis, 10 p.m., price unlisted
