Jean Doré Beach

Go to the beach! Yes, Jean Doré Beach is easily accessible and fairly affordable strip of sand and large, large body of clean and very cold water on Île Notre-Dame, just beyond the Casino. Get there by metro (Parc Jean-Drapeau) and a short bus ride (777 Plage), and BYO beach essentials — see detailed rates, schedules and a list of what items are allowed and not allowed hereÎle Notre-Dame, 10 a.m.–7 p.m., $9 for anyone over 14/$5.50 after 4:30 p.m.

The Just for Laughs festival doesn’t even technically begin until Thursday, but tonight The Ethnic Show begins a 19-show run at Club Soda (through July 28) with new host Rachid Badouri. Joining the Laval-born Moroccan will be a crew of U.S. comics skewering the American experience of their respective people: Nigerians, Greeks, Italians, Puerto Ricans and Jews. Easily offended people are advised to stay away (or enjoy the masochism, if that’s your thing). 1225 St-Laurent, 7 p.m., $43.33$60.49

If you missed Phi Centre’s 40th anniversary screening of Taxi Driver, see the classic 1976 Martin Scorsese film (starring Robert De Niro in probably his most iconic role) at Dollar Cinema. 6900 Decarie Square, 8:30 p.m., $5/$10

As part of its new cycle on erotic films, the Cinémathèque has gotten its hands on a 35mm print of Philip Kaufman’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being on loan from the Saul Zaentz Company Collection. Daniel Day-Lewis and Juliette Binoche star in this adaptation of Milan Kundera’s novel. 355 de Maisonneuve E., 9 p.m., $10

Check out a show at Drones, with “weirdo punx” Palberta, alt pop band Hand Cream, the heavy styles of BYHD and new band Ugly Cry. Secret location, 10:30 p.m., $8/PWYC
