Salut C’est Cool

The annual MEG — or Montreal Electronique Groove — music festival mounts many shades of electronic sounds, including hip hop, electro-rock and synth-pop bands as well as DJs, from Montreal and the ROC, plus a handful of acts from France.

There’s no MEG Boat Party this year, but there are plenty of great shows happening at the festival this year, from the Quartier de Spectacles to Mile End. Here are listings for all the shows, with a video repping one artist from each bill:

July 21

Major French music mag Les Inrockuptibles called Salut C’est Cool “le groupe le plus cool de France” last year. The four-piece electro/punk band plays with Geneva producer Mimetic and Mr Desrape, a producer from Saint-Eustache, QC.

Montreal’s Ilichna Morasky makes music under the name Strangerfamiliar. She plays with the great local dark wave band CO\NTRY and Mansfield TYA, a duo from Nantes, France.

La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 10 p.m., $10/$15

July 22

Wake Island whittled down from a five-piece band to a duo and went electronic with a new record called Out this year. They play with fellow locals Syngja and Syzzors.

Divan Orange (4234 St-Laurent), 10 p.m., $5/$10

French-born, Montreal-based producer Fonkynson is using this MEG show to launch his first full-length/official album #followme, out now on Lisbon Lux Records, before playing Osheaga next weekend. He plays with Parisian producer Superpoze and Montreal’s frame.

July 23

At mini-MEG, kids will get a chance to try their hand at mixing with DJ/producer Omni, accompanied by visual c/o VJ Homing.

Divan Orange (4234 St-Laurent), 3:30 p.m., $5 suggested donation

From Marseille, four-piece beatmaking band la Fine Équipe headline a bill featuring Montreal’s Robert Robert and a surprise guest.

July 24

MEG moves to Piknic Electronik, presenting U.K. producer/DJ Huxley, Toronto’s City Kid Soul and Mimetic under the sun.

Jardin des Floralies (Ile Notre-Dame), 2 p.m., $13.50/$15

July 28

MEG hosts a pre-Osheaga party with Montreal producer/DJ Ryan Playground and fellow locals Tibe and WYLN.

Le Belmont (4483 St-Laurent), 10 p.m., $5/$10

July 29

Electro-jazz producers Topium play with local hip hop collective Nomadic Massive and Bad Dylan.

Divan Orange (4234 St-Laurent), 10 p.m., $5/$10

July 30

Flex Complet, aka local DJs Kyle Kalma, Seychelle and Seb Diamond, cap this edition of MEG with what promises to be a memorable closing party.
