Turbo Kid

Montreal Comiccon returns to Palais des Congrès for three days of nerd ecstasy, featuring comics companies and creators exhibiting their stuff, celebrities from the worlds of sci-fi, fantasy and cult film and TV (including a large Star Trek contingent) and related activities including gaming, conferences, panels and loads of cosplay — look for our daily photo galleries at cultmontreal.com. Comiccon’s Obscura programming promises actors and directors from horror and fantasy films, including Ghostbusters, the Harry Potter franchise and the 2014 Montreal-made fantasy smash Turbo Kid. 1001 Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle, 1:308 p.m. today (10 a.m.7 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.5 p.m. Sunday), entry $35/$89 VIP

Get physical today at the Marché des Possibles in Mile End with some free “tandem in the park” training by l’Ecurie (noon) and free your mind with a meditation session (12:30 p.m.). The evening programming (6–11 p.m.) features live music by Daily Alice, Swift Years, Down by Riverside and Dany Laj and the Looks, as well as an illustrated history of Mile End. As usual there will be vendors and food trucks on site and a bar to quench your thirst for booze. Outside 5635 St-Dominique, free access

A rival market, Marché Éphémère, sets up for the weekend a little further south — see more details here. 5035 St-Dominique, 5–9 p.m. today, free

Today at the Jazz Fest, local reggae artist Face-T (8 p.m.) and local rapper Wasiu (10 p.m.) play the Turkish Airlines/CBC stage, while the Wainwright Sisters (Martha and Lucy) play their dark lullabies at Théâtre du Nouveau Monde and local folk/pop artist Neema plays l’Astral. Click the event listings link below for show details.

Infamously the worst movie ever made, Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 film The Room, screens at Cinéma du Parc, with special guest Philip Haldiman (the actor who played “Denny”). 3575 Parc, 9:15 p.m., $25/$30

For more live music recommendations (and there are a lot of good ones today), see this week’s edition of Hammer of the Mods.
